Porto elected the Europe’s Leading City Destination 2022
Porto was elected Europe’s Leading City Destination 2022, on the 29th edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA), a ceremony that took place last night, in Palma de Mallorca (Spain). The award, which once again places the city in the elite of the best European destinations, was received by the councillor for Tourism and Internationalization, Catarina Santos Cunha.
In this category, Porto competed alongside cities like Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Geneva, Lisbon, London, Lyon, Rome, Venice, and Vienna.
Porto was also in the running for Europe’s Leading City Break Destination 2022, Europe’s Leading Cultural City Destination 2022, and Europe’s Leading Seaside Metropolitan Destination 2022.
The World Travel Awards encompass the entire range of the travel and tourism industry, from hotels, resorts and destinations to airlines and tour operators around the world and are recognized globally as an excellence brand. It was funded in 1993 and it is now in its 29th edition. Every year it travels the world with the Grand Tour – regional gala ceremonies to recognize excellence on each continent.
The World Travel Awards gala ceremonies are considered landmark events in the travel calendar, with the participation of key decision makers, as well as industry influencers and media outlets. The programme, as well as its winners and sponsors are represented globally in the press, with daily new contents on several platforms.
Despite all the constraints, the 2021 World Travel Awards’ annual voting numbers, broke a record with 2,3 million valid votes, with more people participating than in any other year in the WTA’s 29-year history, representing a huge vote of confidence for the recovery of the travel and tourism industry.
